The term "COMRADE" is widely misunderstood by many, and especially so by Americans. Our chapter's email inbox leaves no doubt about that.
The term is often confused with an attempt to be edgy, a sub-culture label, or some form of larp / costume. It is none of these things for actual socialists (mostly).
Instead, the term "COMRADE" defines a political relationship between two people on the same side of a fight against capital's oppression of the working class. You have friends, acquaintances, co-workers, partners... and if you're a socialist, you also have comrades.Â

A bad meeting has the capacity to smother a great idea before it has a chance to take off. A good meeting can create a tremendous amount of support, motivation and momentum for a good idea.

The 1x1: Structured Organizing Conversations

1. All social & political organizing is based on 1:1 relationships. Every campaign or political project in all of human history has begun with one person asking another to join them.
2. The strength of an organization is equal to the sum of the strength of individual relationships that make up said organization. When your friends say 'yes' when you ask them to help with a chore/task they might not enjoy performing (helping you move apartments, dog-sitting, drive you to the airport etc) — it's because they value your relationship. Organizing in DSA operates the same way.
3. The Structured Organizing Conversation (The 1x1) is a bread & butter organizing tool our members use to support the maintenance of our existing relationships, the formation of new relationships, and increases the chances of successful campaigns by moving people into action.
This is not solely for political organizing — If you've ever organized a Murder-Mystery Party for 25 of your friends you know how hard it can be to get them to respond to an email selecting a date for the event. Join us and discover how we use this basic organizing tool to win power for our local community and wrangle our friends into doing cool things with us.
